St. Gregorios Orthodox Church of India, South Florida Consecrated

 

Consecration and dedication service of St. Gregorios Orthodox Church of India, South Florida was conducted on 14th and 15th January 2011. H.G. Alexios Mar Eusebius, Metropolitan of the Diocese of South - West America, led the consecration service.
H.G Alexios Mar Eusebius was welcomed to the new church with a grand reception on Friday January 14th, 2011 at 5:30 pm. Following the traditions of the Indian Orthodox Church, His Grace cut the ribbon and entered the church. Fr. George John welcomed His Grace by giving a lighted candle and His Grace lit the oil lamp. Following this ceremony and the evening evening prayer, the laying of the foundation stone and
first part of the consecration service was conducted by His Grace.
On Saturday, January 15, morning prayer started at 7:00 am followed by second part of the consecration, Holy Mooninmel Qurbana, Procession, and ended with Benediction. Mooninmenel Qurbana was led by His Grace Alexios Mar Eusebius and Fr. Thampan Varghese & Fr. George Paulose were the co-celebrants. The consecration service was blessed with the presence of various priests from our church and from other denominations.
Along with the members of St. Gregorios Orthodox church of South Florida several faithfuls from sister parishes and other churches attended the service. Rev. Fr. Thampan Varghese, Rev. Fr. Dr. Joy Pyngolil, Rev. Fr. George Paulose, Rev. Fr. George Daniel, Rev. Fr. Dr. Jacob Mathew, Rev. Fr. Sam Mathew, Rev. Fr. Thomson Chacko, Rev. Fr. Vartan D. Joulfayan, Rev. Fr. Nersess Jebejian, Rev. Fr. Shibu Yohannan, Rev. Jose Abraham, Rev. Thomas Mathew and Rev. Fr. Zachariah Thottuvelil attended the consecration service.
The public meeting began at 2:00pm. His Grace Alexios Mar Eusebius presided over the meeting . In his presidential address, His Grace spoke of the significance of the consecration of a church, and also congratulated the parishioners on their tremendous achievement and presented Fr. George John with an Icon of Christ. On behalf of the city of Hollywood and its Mayor Hon. Peter Bobber, the City Commissioner Hon. Linda Sherwood and the City Vice Mayor, Hon. Heidi O’sheehan, delivered messages and well wishes. Mr. Samuel Thomas reflected on the hard work of the parishioners for the past 10 years under the leadership of Rev. Fr. George John to reach the milestone of having both a spiritual and
physical church of our own. Several other members of the parish spoke including Mr. Skaria Mathai, Mr. Biju John, Mr. Abraham Vadakara and Ms. Tara Thomas. The church choir, several church members and sunday school students sang songs . Mr. Sajan Mathew presented the souvenir commemorating this momentous occasion to His Grace, who in turn officially released it by giving the first copy to the Vice Mayor of the city of Hollywood, Hon. Heidi O’sheehan. There was also felicitation by the Rev. Jose P. Abraham (Vicar, Marthoma Church of South Florida), who presented a plaque of congratulations to Fr. George John. On behalf of St. Gregorios Church plaques recognizing the exemplary efforts were presented to Rev.Fr. George John, Mr. Mathai Skaria, Mr. Biju P. John, Mr. Georgy John, and the contractor Natalya Golyk & Valery Vorozheykin. The church also presented His Grace with two Icons as appreciation and to commemorate the event. Mr. Rejit George, Diocesan Representative, delivered the vote of thanks and acknowledged numerous individuals who contributed to the success of the church and the consecration ceremony. The meeting ended at 5:00pm with prayer and benediction.
With the dedication and hard work of the Vicar and all the members of St. Gregorios Orthodox Church Of India, South Florida the consecration service was a very blessed occasion and they utilize this occasion to praise God for His continuous blessings from the very beginning and surrender themselves to His loving feet.
