Dallas Area Regional Sunday School Competition held on May 12th
The first annual Dallas Regional Competition was held at St. Thomas Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church in Dallas, Texas on Saturday May 12th 2012 at 9:00am. The competition was attended by priests and nearly 200 Sunday School students from seven churches across North Texas and Oklahoma. The competition was graced with the presence of Rev. Fr. Raju Daniel, Rev. Fr. Thampan Varghese, Rev. Fr. Rajesh K. John, Rev. Fr. Binu Mathews, and Rev. Fr. Matt Alexander. Additionally, the Southwest America Diocese Sunday School Secretary, Alex Alexander was in attendance.
The completion general assembly began promptly at 9:00am with opening prayer by Rev Fr. Binu Mathews. The Dallas Regional Sunday School Coordinator, Mr Philip Thomas gave the welcome speech.
The competition events began at 9:30am. Gold and silver medals were awarded to 1st and 2nd place winners in each competition category: Solo Song English, Solo Song Malayalam, Group Song English, Group Song Malayalam, Prayer Recital, and Elocution. The first place rolling trophy was awarded to St. Mary's Valiya Pally, Dallas for the most number of 1st and 2nd place winners. The second place rolling trophy was awarded to St. Gregorios Orthodox Church, Dallas. The Dallas Regional Competition committee wishes to thank all the priests, judges, volunteers, principals, and teachers who committed their time and resources to make this event a success.
We thank St. Thomas Orthodox Church for the use of their beautiful facilities. We especially thank all the children who participated in this event, and continue to pray for the spiritual growth of our young generation and for the betterment of our Sunday School activities.
